Shenyang, China Business Trip Report
April 1, 2008 11:02 AM | Category: DIARY, SHENYANG
I am in Shenyan, China on a business for 3 days.
* You can see larger pictures by clicking them.
When you go into the airport in Japan by car, there is a baggage check. However, this time, they said, "because it is raining, there is no baggage check today."
What a peaceful country Japan is. When it rains, no one tries to carry in a bomb, they believe?
If it were the US, I am sure they say, "your problem is less important than the country's problem."
I took this picture when the airplane arrived at Shenyang airport.
There are 7 people on the ground, covering their ears with their hands.
Outside must be very noisy with the engine sound.
Usually, they use headphone style soundproof cover, I think.
What they were doing was very analog, looked very cute.
When you arrive at the airport, lots of people come to you
with various purposes. You must put your passport and wallet in inner pockets.
When you run into someone, check your pocket before apologize.
Beware of pickpockets. You cannot blame anyone when you get in trouble.
And you negotiate with the driver of unlicensed taxi.
Though I am not good at Chinese, my negotiation is perfect.
Negotiation is common in all countries!
The driver offers you to carry your bag, but never accept that offer. Once you give your baggage, it would be gone forever.
Shenyang was raining this time.
And here, what was happening in the Shenyang office.
Employees try to dry their umbrella in the office!
Most people use collapsable umbrella unlike in Japan.
And I envy the space of the office!
Shenyang office is very big compare to
the offices in Japan.
And lunch time. The lunch is about 10 gen (150 yen).
You should never take a look at the kitchen.
Once you see it, you lose your appetite.
The Taiwanese manager said, "taste very old-fashioned and nice."
The Chinese manager said, "this is one of the best!"
To enjoy local food is very important.
You cannot survive if have the trots from eating local food.
Well, if you get diarrhea 10times, then your stomach get used to it.
One of the best hotel in Shenyang area - Sheraton.
It is one of the best but the price is less than 10,000 yen.
When you make a reservation in Japanese, it would cost more than twice, though.
In China, you should make a reservation in Chinese and with Chinese name.
Moreover, the price is different all the time, so you should book several
times with different names to get the cheapest.
You can see the wide, huge land,
beautiful buildings, and beat-up buildings.
Compare to Manhattan, NY,
it looks more energetic.
Whenever I see this, I think about soft life
in Japan and learn a lesson.
For accounting audit of Shenyang office, there are several
people required.
Because there are just so many auditors, it looks as if the company is the listed company.
And auditors work whole day to check the accounting.
And all of them have different opinions...
Sometimes, you cannot get receipt for allowable payment.
When you go to the bank during the day to withdraw company's money, sometimes you cannot withdraw because the person in charge is not there.
Moreover, you have to have proper reason to withdraw your money.
When you say "to pay the employees", then the banker says, "this much money for the salary?"
They have nothing to do with our company's salary system though...
Here, I have to forget about my common sense.
I got used to it a little so a small trouble does not surprise me anymore.
For unbelievable troubles, you take care them with a laugh.
Well, then, we all went out for dinner.
The restaurant was very clean, the food was so good.
About 20 of us ate, drank, and ate.
The total was...
650 gen (about 10,000 yen).
The good thing about going on a business trip to China is there are lots more great and cheap restaurants than the US.
There are lots of great Chinese restaurants.
There is one employee who knows I hate
bizarre foods always brings insects, some legs, or faces with a smile.
The picture is "Fried silkworm."
It looks so gross that I suddenly lose my appetite.
It takes about 5 minutes for me to recover...
I have to be tougher, I think...
After dinner, we went to a clean-looking massage shop.
2-hour massage to whole body.
Of course, this was less than 10,000 yen, too.
There is a beat-up massage store near by and it charges the same price!
The massage store we went includes oversea capital.
Compare to the beat-up one, the service quality is totally different with the same price.
This massage store is rapidly growing by offering a very good quality of service with the same price with other stores.
There are so many things I learn from China.
Sometimes, an employee who is always calm and quiet get very excited.
Everyone looks very energetic.
When I am drinking warm beer (in China, beer is usually warm) and not getting drank at all, then they offer me Sake.
But they hardly ever drink Sake. I think Chinese are not really drinkers.
At least, employees at Shenyang office drink the least compare to those of other offices.
While we were at Karaoke, one of the people started eating
sunflower seeds and throwing away the shell on the floor.
Not only that, but he also threw away the kleenex after wiping his hands.
I wondered why and simply asked:
Me: "Why do you throw everything away to the floor?"
Him: "What? Because they are garbage."
O, Oh...
But I think you should throw garbage away to the trash can.
Well, these do not surprise me anymore though.
There are more troubles that I cannot write on this blog.
But I manage those somehow and strongly go on in life.
